Sketches plus some on-site notes , made while on location and during travels in and around Lisbon, Porto, Evora, Guimares, Faro, Obidos. . . can be pencil sketches or simple watercolour renderings - either on site or later in the studio.
They are not necessarily intended to become finished paintings . . . but sometimes do.
